I realize I haven’t done one of these in a very long while, so here goes! A wee list of whats good on the internets according to moi.
I wouldn’t call myself Buddy Holly fan, but I am intrigued by the super musical collective put together to create the lastest tribute album. Florence Welch’s bajoue vibe on the ‘Not Fade Away‘ track is just perfect. A great tribute indeed. Be sure to read the little interview with producer C.C. Adcock over at Nowness.
TOPSHOP IS COMING TO TORONTO! Can you tell I’m excited. The Bay Yorkdale will house both Topshop and Topman. But there are tons of pop-up goodies to look forward too all summer long. So be sure to check out Topshop Canada‘s facebook page for all the yummy deets.
Bon Iver‘s latest self titled album is out and it’s everything I’ve ever wanted. You can stream the entire compliation over at Pitchforkright now.
I was once scoffed at by a boy I was seeing for never having watched ‘Blade Runner’. “It’s the best movie of all time.” I of course beg to differ. Having watched it, I still don’t quite get the cultish obsession, but I do now understand where fashion’s view of futuristic wardrobe comes from. Sean Young is a total babetron in the movie and now she’s offered up a few dusty polaroids for us to oogle at too.
I’m so trilled to be catching The National Ballet of Canada‘s rendition of ‘Alice in Wonderland’ tonight. And if you haven’t already you must watch the first ever fim version of this classic Lewis Carrol tale over at MUBI.
‘This is My Dream‘ by Theo Stanley gives us a small glimpse in the the mind and private world of designer Yoji Yamamoto. Here he speaks of his love for darkness and the power of his own judgement. I’ve posted the trailer below.
‘Nothing is impossible, believe in your dreams and go create’ Jefferson Hack
My obsession with the Dazed group is not much of a secret. So this past Thursday I made it a point to tune in to Business of Fashion and it’s founder Imran Ahmed in conversation with editorial director of Dazed Groupand indie publishing guru Jefferson Hack. Major topics included; the potential fate of our beloved glossies, the need of constant innovation and of course the iPad. In case you missed the live stream, BoF promises to have the video up on their website at some point this week.
Hot Docs: Canada’s international documentary film festival held in Toronto is in full swing! Now in it’s fifth year Hot Docs is North America’s largest documentary festival and runs until this Sunday May 9th. Be sure to check out the online schedule to buy tix and find films.
Epic E-shop fail : The top ten luxury brands’ websites are not accessible with the iPad or iPhone. Go Figure. Considering it’s taken most of these brands a millennium to hope on to the interweb train in the first place.
ADR: The gorgeous Anna Dello Russo can now be stalked proper via Twitter. So say hello and follow! The fantastic fash-ed also has a blog that she swears is all Russo.
Splatter Revolution: The lovely Ashley Rowe hosted a splatter filled party at Evan Biddell‘s Oz Studio Boutique. Here images of her new Fall 2010 look book was showcased, amongst paint splattered tees, bouncy beats and Toronto’s cool kids. http://twitpic.com/1jigvf
Like a proper nerd I’ve been reading up on Social Media Marketing for the last few months. The latest BizReport article confirms that adverts in social spaces (such as Facebook) are highly effective and can increase brand awareness by almost double!
After much speculation it is official. Ungarochucks Estrella Archs and attempts to revive their tarnished reps by wooing super cool London based designer Giles Deacon. As much as I love Deacon I was really hoping for and Erdem redemption.
I am still a tad bit speculative when it comes to Nowness.com; but I do find my self gravitating towards the site more and more. This week architect-turned- menswear designer Siki Im introduces his fashion video ” A New Era” celebrating sartorialism, an American Psycho, beautiful decay and a sense of hope.
And lastly, WTF is happening over at The GAP head quarters. The Fall 2010 shoe collection is surprisingly gorgeous. I shit you not! I would never lie! May be not faint inducing, but a fucking surprise none the less.
