Markus Lupfer 2012 Resort Film

Possibly the smartest campaign video I’ve seen in quite sometime, Markus Lupfer gathers a few of his most favourite ladies for this science documentary farce directed by Tabitha Denholm. Big model names include my favourite Canadian cool kid Irina Lazareanu, current Louis Vuitton face Mary Charteris and super songbird Florence Welch as possessed little minions in Dr.Lupfer’s laboratory.
Check out the video below.

And you can shop for a few sweet Markus Lupfer pieces here.

British Style Genius: take to the streets

I’ve always had a thing for BBC documentaries.
From wildlife to big fat Gypsy weddings
and then of course FASHION.

BBC2′s British Style Genius is a five part, one hour series that originally aired back in 2008 and showcases a very patriotically English take on fashion in the nation.  The one episode I managed to find, discusses the rise and fall of street fashion and development of style tribes beginning with the post-world war 2 TeddyBoys, the Skinheads and right up to the Chavs of our generation. There are interviews with tribe heads - including Rolling Stones Charlie Watts – and an interesting look at how working class youth used street-wear as a rebellion against the elite and the establishment long before the punk revolution.

Spread the Awesome

Well worth a listen for this cold Monday morning.
And a sign, almost like a little blessing in disguise.

Gareth Pugh S/S 2011

My life has picked up with such speed I do feel like I am missing out on a number of memories and moments. Please note that I am not here to complain! Far from it. For you see I am doing what I must do to make my real dreams manifest and come true.  So I suppose, sacrifices must be made.
But God bless the internet, for little gems likes these! I’ve missed most of  the Spring/Summer fashion hooplah, buried in books and clients, and no where near my darling little computer. Thank goodness for SHOWStudio and their coverage.
Feck this video is amazing, and allows me to keep dreaming.

Directed by Ruth Hogben and presented by SHOWstudio.

Act da Fool

the stars ain’t never gonna leave us.

Harmony Korine x Proenza Schouler

What do 40 ounces have to do with pret-a-porter?
I sit clueless.
I watched this little flick,
a little uncomfortable.
Trying to find meaning amongst the graininess.
Perhaps I’m looking in to it a little too much?

Still,
I feel put off.

Manhattan

Chapter One:

He adored New York City. He idolized it all out of proportion. Uh, no. Make that, he romanticized it all out of proportion. To him, no matter what season it was, this was still a town that existed in black and white and pulsated with the great tunes of George Gershwin.

The itch is back.
My skin throbs as if I’ve been bit by thousands of mosquitoes,
piercing with rapture,
leaving me bone dry.

The big move to London town has been pushed back.  For good and valid reasons of course. But despite the rationale of responsibility, I still find my self waking with a dull ache at the center of my rib-cage.
Patience. Development and great career growth.
These are my tests.
Until then, I day dream of  New York City.
And a Fall weekend spent with fantastic friends exploring the beats, streets and eats. Over 96 hours of completely unhinged excitement,
Let’s make this time round all the more epic, ladies!

Notre Jour Viendra – Our Day Will Come

Notre Jour Viendra
will be director Romain Gavras’ feature film debut, starring Vincent Cassel ( of La Haine fame) and Olivier Barthelemy.
From what I have managed to collect the story follows a teenage boy riddled with anger and resentment, is then rejected by his family and is desperately in search for a place to fit in. Anger, sex and psychotherapy seems to be the underlining theme here.
The studio is incredibly tight lipped with information about the film, but judging by this teaser alone, Gavras promises his usual potent blend of dark demonic human emotion and perhaps a little personal acceptance.

The White Room

Another poetic fashion film over at Nowness.com
Where I was once quite skeptical of the website, I can honestly say now that I am a convert.
With production like this I’d be a fool not to visit every so often.Photographer -now director- Sharif Hamza’s take on the Fall 2010 Dior Homme collection is so delicate yet masculine and so completely up my aesthetic alley.  Not to mention I have been a huge fan of Robbie Spencer’s styling work that it nearly borders on obsession. The creative marriage here is divine and further justifies the need for both editorial as well as fashion film.

Movement for the moment.
A still for the eternal.

Lady Blue

Marion Cotillard and Gong Tao star in the latest Dior fashion film ‘Lady Blue’ written and directed by David Lynch.  John Galliano art directs this cinematic campaign for the label’s new It-bag the ‘Lady Dior’.
The mystery of the Orient seems to be quiet the draw for major fashion houses, and Shanghai seems to be the most coveted destination, first with Chanel then Prada and now Dior.
Perhaps Africa is next? So much beauty can be tapped in too, between the rain kissed jungles and the arid deserts. An art directors dreamscape in my opinion.

Will Davidson’s movie/editorial for Dazed Mag’s  May issue is stunning.

I am left breathless.
I have been a ridiculously huge fan of the magazine for as long as I can remember. For reasons like this.
Constantly innovative.
I mean change that is really beautiful and really pushes the boundary on art and fashion.  I have no proper words,
My Mecca is DAZED,
simple really.

Dreaming Dasha

The Weeks of Dasha” is stunning conceptual fashion film project by Swedish cinematographer Emil Klang.  Here Klang fuses two of his favourite mediums to create a movie series about a fictional young Russian girl, Dasha, who moves to Stockholm and is followed for a year.

Klang has created 52 web-isodes showcasing beautiful  fashion pieces created by both international and Swedish designers all worn by the characters featured in the films. So far I have spotted Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair, Hope, Dagmar and Noir et Blanc in what I can safely call an amazing animated look-book.

I have posted the first week’s episode below, be sure to catch up and watch the rest here.

Harper’s Bazaar March 2010

Just picked up this month’s Harper’s Bazaar issue and was thrilled to find a great editorial spread celebrating Pedro Almodovar’s work. He’s one of the greatest in my humble opinion and HB’s fashionable recast of his most memorable scenes is a fantastic idea.
